ARTICLE: Vince Gill & Friends Concert for STARS

Country Music’s consummate caring artist, Vince Gill, lent his musical talents once again on Thursday, November 11 at the Country Music Hall of Fame and Museum as CVS/Caremark presents Vince Gill & Friends Concert for STARS (Students Taking A Right Stand) helping their important work of assisting young people throughout Middle Tennessee overcome tough social and emotional barriers to learning.

Rodger Dinwiddie, STARS executive director, said Gill, after helping celebrate STARS quarter of a century of service last year, is coming back again to host a second, star-studded evening for STARS. Event chairman, Christy Smith, added that guests from Canada and California, as well as many wonderful local supporters attended the spectacular event which included a Silent Auction featuring a David Yurman cuff bracelet donated by the nationally renown New York artisan.

Vince and his special guests help STARS continue their critical service to Middle Tennessee families from helping teens cope with peer pressure, bullying, substance abuse and violence as well as reach out to the kids with the "Kids On The Block" puppetry program.

Gill brought along the incredible musical guests Jenny Gill (daughter of Vince), Don Schlitz who wrote Kenny Rogers' "The Gambler" and "When You Say Nothing at All" recorded by Keith Whitley, and an amazing new talented guitar player named Shawn. Stacey Schlitz (Don's wife who is a performing musician and songwriter ) also joined Gill on stage.

A Silent Auction featured an impressive array of items from the Yurman cuff, artists’ autographed guitars and musician stools to Titans and Predators sports packages.

Founded in 1984, STARS specialists operate in elementary to high schools serving more than 70 schools and community sites within a ten-county area. In addition to helping students tackle tough social issues, STARS Nashville is a nationally recognized resource for training and professional consultation.

“Tough economic times hits our youth even harder as many are ill-equipped to deal with this additional stress. Partnering with Vince on an event of this caliber stands to positively impact so many lives,” Dinwiddie stressed.

Vince Gill & Friends Concert for STARS was presented by CVS/Caremark on Thursday, November 11 with a reception at 6:30 p.m. in the Conservatory of the Country Music Hall of Fame and Museum followed by an 8:00 p.m. concert. Exclusive patron tickets included premium concert seating and a post-concert meet and greet with Vince Gill.
