Aaron Tippin launched a 25-year career for himself in country music in the ‘90s with hits including “You’ve Got to Stand for Something,” “There Ain’t Nothing Wrong with the Radio” and “Kiss This.” Tippin brought those songs along with some barbecue and a few bottles of his new Country Jam blackberry wine from Stonehaus Winery to the Country Music Association office on Thursday at lunch time.
“I’m looking forward to hearing some music, and I hear the reports on the wine are outstanding,” said CMA Chief Executive Officer Sarah Trahern. “Some of (us) who usually don’t drink in the middle of the day, it’s worth taking a sip. Aaron’s here, why not?”
Tippin also shared stories. His wife Thea Tippin was there and she came on stage to help him sing “Kiss This,” a song they wrote following a dispute in the kitchen. Thea Tippin called her husband a “backseat cook” and said one day he was trying to tell her how to season a recipe. The singer could tell his wife was getting angry and asked if they could “kiss and make up.”
“I said, ‘You know what you can kiss? You can kiss this,’” Thea Tippin recalled. Her quip sparked the song idea and they wrote it a few weeks later.
Aaron Tippin will play a concert at Stonehaus Winery in Crossville 7 p.m. Sept. 4. The Grascals will open the show. Tickets are $25 at www.stonehauswinery.com.
Tippin’s new album “Aaron Tippin 25” – a combination of past hits and new songs- is available now at www.aarontippin.com. Country Jam is available in liquor stores.

Members of the Nashville music industry’s creative community offered their best golf games (and costume ideas) during the 29th annual Music Row Ladies Golf Tournament (MRLGT), which was held Aug. 17 at Franklin, Tenn.’s Old Natchez Country Club.
The event raised approximately $65,000 to benefit United Cerebral Palsy of Middle Tennessee, and counted ASCAP, City National Bank, Tim McGraw, Chris Young and McGhee Entertainment as sponsors. McGhee Entertainment was also named the 2015 MRLGT Director’s Award honoree. Meanwhile, McGraw was honored with a special award from the MRLGT in recognition of his years of support (the honor was accepted by McGraw’s manager Scott Siman).
The MRLGT’s 2015 Contributing Sponsors also included Big Machine Label Group, Country Music Association, Maverick, Tim Perryman, Reba, Allen Reynolds, Joe Don and Tiffany Rooney, Blake Shelton, Slo & Low BBQ, SunTrust Bank and UMG Nashville.
Since its inception in 1987, the tournament has raised almost $1.9 million to date for United Cerebral Palsy of Middle Tennessee.
Tournament Founder/Director Herky Williams said, “Even after 29 years, we still continue to pick up momentum. This will be our biggest year since we switched to having only one tee time, and next year’s 30th anniversary will be our best tournament yet. Once again our planning committee stepped up and did an outstanding job.”

Banner Music has signed Shelby Lee Lowe to their artist roster. The Cornersville, Tenn. native recently graduated from MTSU and is working on his debut project with the company.
“Shelby brings a lot of energy and enthusiasm to our team.  He is determined to do what it takes to succeed and he is full of optimism about accomplishing goals.  I think a company like Banner Music is known for the quality of artists and songwriters they sign and I believe Shelby’s personality and commitment is a good fit because he supports and strengthens our company’s reputation by having the same qualities that we have,” said Daniel Kleindienst, co-owner/songwriter/producer of Banner Music.
