THE TENNESSEAN: Aaron Tippin brings wine, stories to CMA

Aaron Tippin launched a 25-year career for himself in country music in the ‘90s with hits including “You’ve Got to Stand for Something,” “There Ain’t Nothing Wrong with the Radio” and “Kiss This.” Tippin brought those songs along with some barbecue and a few bottles of his new Country Jam blackberry wine from Stonehaus Winery to the Country Music Association office on Thursday at lunch time.
“I’m looking forward to hearing some music, and I hear the reports on the wine are outstanding,” said CMA Chief Executive Officer Sarah Trahern. “Some of (us) who usually don’t drink in the middle of the day, it’s worth taking a sip. Aaron’s here, why not?”
Tippin also shared stories. His wife Thea Tippin was there and she came on stage to help him sing “Kiss This,” a song they wrote following a dispute in the kitchen. Thea Tippin called her husband a “backseat cook” and said one day he was trying to tell her how to season a recipe. The singer could tell his wife was getting angry and asked if they could “kiss and make up.”
“I said, ‘You know what you can kiss? You can kiss this,’” Thea Tippin recalled. Her quip sparked the song idea and they wrote it a few weeks later.
Aaron Tippin will play a concert at Stonehaus Winery in Crossville 7 p.m. Sept. 4. The Grascals will open the show. Tickets are $25 at www.stonehauswinery.com.
